🥾 The 10-Minute Walk That Took an Hour

Cute Bernadoodle sniffing the grass next to tree on a walk

You grabbed the leash with a plan. Ten minutes. Around the block. Back home. Easy.

That was 52 minutes ago.

Because nobody told your dog about the plan. Your dog has been very busy:

🌳 Reading every tree like it's the morning newspaper.

🌳 Inspecting one patch of grass for a full minute. (It looks exactly like every other patch.)

🌳 Greeting a stranger, a mailbox, and a leaf. In that order.

🌳 Refusing to go home until THE smell has been fully investigated.

🌳 Stopping dead in the middle of the sidewalk, for no reason, to look at absolutely nothing.

And somehow, you've made friends. There's the neighbor you've waved at for a year, and now you know their dog's name but not theirs. There's the other dog on the corner who gets a full-body wiggle every single time. You have a whole social life now, and it's all because of a creature who can't hold a conversation.

Somewhere around the second tree, you went from "we're in a hurry" to "okay buddy, take your time." You stopped checking your phone. You started noticing the sky. The way the light hits the street. A bird you've heard a hundred times and never actually looked for.

Here's what we believe: dog walks aren't really about the dog's legs. They're about slowing you down, too. Your dog just happens to be the one who remembers that the world is full of interesting things, and that there's no prize for getting home first.

Some days it's the walk before work, half asleep, coffee in one hand. Some days it's the long one after a rough day, when neither of you says much and that's exactly right. They're all good ones. The 10-minute plan never stood a chance, and honestly? Neither did you.

At Duke's Delights, we say every good walk deserves a reward at the end, and a pocket treat helps with the "okay, time to go home" negotiation. Our Apple & Kale Delight rides along nicely. 🍎
